The Herd Is On Its Way
The designs for this Summer’s public art Elephant Trail, have been revealed at an event last week held at the Sheffield Institute of Arts in the newly refurbished former Post Office building in Fitzalan Square.
Local businesses were invited to choose from over 90 designs, from leading contemporary artists, for the elephant they are sponsoring.
Diane Jarvis, Sheffield BID Manager says:
“As the supporting partner, we are delighted that the BID’s investment is supporting the creation of such an exciting and visual sculpture trail which will animate the whole of the city centre, encouraging visitors to explore all aspects of the city centre.
“The trail is designed to boost visitor numbers, encourage visitors to stay longer and drive an increase in spending in to our city centre shops, restaurants and other local businesses. It demonstrates the BID’s commitment to delivering, through its Busier programme, “additional” activities that can generate high footfall, city centre vibrancy and economic growth through collaboration.”
The full designs will stay top secret until the elephants take their places on the streets of Sheffield, but follow Sheffield BID on Twitter @SheffieldBID and like the Facebook page for sneak peeks of the elephants as these outstanding pieces of work, many from local artists, begin to take shape.
