Cliffhanger exceeds expectations with 40% visitor increase
Sheffield further cemented it’s Outdoor City status over the weekend with the return of the Cliffhanger festival. The event took place throughout the city centre and played host to some of Europe’s brightest climbing talent who were there to take part in the British Bouldering Championships.
People descended on the City Centre to get involved in the action while soaking up the glorious weekend weather. Families, young professionals and older visitors packed themselves onto Devonshire Green where a large part of the event was held.
35,000 people came into the City Centre for Cliffhanger 2016. In July 2017 the Cliffhanger festival surpassed expectations with an estimated increase of 40% in visitor numbers compared to the previous year.
Sheffield BID Manager Diane Jarvis said: “This is a great result for Sheffield city centre. This demonstrates how well the city centre is reinventing itself as a genuine leisure destination, very much part of the Outdoor City proposition.”
