Are you ready for 'Summer in The Outdoor City'?

Sheffield BID is backing the new 'Summer in The Outdoor City' campaign to attract residents back into the city centre and entice visitors to the city, all whilst supporting businesses hit by the pandemic.

The new 'Summer in The Outdoor City' campaign will see a number of headline grabbing events coming back to the city centre, including new events coming to Division Street, in Orchard Square and in Tudor Square. You can see the full list of events, activities and attractions on The Outdoor City website

This year's city centre summer highlights include:

  • Festival on the Square - a new event celebrating Sheffield’s creative scene with live art installations, film screenings, open-air theatre and interactive workshops (16–30 August)
  • The Hedgerow Market - a new monthly market on Division Street (21 August)
  • The Sheffield Harvest Fayre - a new event coming to the city centre's streets (18–19 September)
  • Makers Market - Sheffield Creative Guild’s first event in Orchard Square (18 September)
  • The Pollen Market - a new flower and plant market coming to Castlegate (19 September)

With so much to look forward to, it's easy to forget what we have already welcomed to the city centre.

We have been playing our role in bringing three big events in to the city centre this summer.

Back for 2021 - Cliffhanger and The Fringe at Tramlines

In July, we once again welcomed showpiece events Cliffhanger (10-11 July) and The Fringe at Tramlines (23-25 July) back to the city centre. Seeing the return of these two 'headliners' was excellent news for the city centre, and our businesses, as more people were attracted to visit and spend time in the city centre.

Following the news that Tramlines festival would go ahead over the weekend 23-25 July, it was quickly followed with confirmation that The Fringe at Tramlines, in association with Sheffield BID, would return after a one-year hiatus. With The Fringe Stage located at Devonshire Green, entertainment for families in the Peace Gardens and live music taking place across outdoor spaces, pubs, bars and music venues, The Fringe at Tramlines once again brought a vibrant, carnival atmosphere in to the city centre.

The Bears of Sheffield - 12 July to 29 September 2021

After a year-long delay, the wonderful Bears of Sheffield finally make their long-awaited appearance on our city's streets.

From Monday 12 July, 61 Big Bears and over 100 Little Bears are transforming the city into a giant public art trail. They bring colour to our streets, visitors in to the city centre and all whilst raising vital funds to help transform the Cancer and Leukaemia Ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

As a headline sponsor, Sheffield BID is backing the Bears of Sheffield to be a truly memorable and attractive event for the city this year.

We are committed to making the Bears of Sheffield a real showcase event for the city centre.

As part of our plans, we have given the Sheffield BID (Unit 1) space on Surrey Street a makeover and transformed it in to ‘Bear Central’. Bear Central is open seven days a week throughout the Bears of Sheffield trail and visitors will be able to pick-up trail maps, Bears merchandise and information on what the city centre has to offer over the summer.

We are working with businesses right across the city centre, and the team behind this year's trail, to pull together a variety of 'Bear Rewards' which trail participants will 'unlock' as they find the Big Bear sculptures and build up their 'Paw Points' to use at participating outlets in and around the city centre.

Let’s make this a great summer for the city centre and let's back the Bears!
