SnookHerd has arrived!
The first of the Sheffield BID sponsored elephants was unveiled on Friday.
SnookHerd, a snooker themed elephant designed by Birmingham based artists Kieron Reilly & Lynsey Brecknell, took pride of place in The Crucible today.
The sculpture will be part of a 50 strong herd of elephants hitting the streets this summer as part of The Herd of Sheffield, a Wild in Art event brought to the city by The Children’s Hospital Charity.
Sheffield BID chose the snooker themed design because of city’s strong connection with snooker.
BID Manager, Diane Jarvis, said, “We are absolutely delighted to sponsor the SnookHerd elephant design. We chose the design as snooker is such a big part of Sheffield’s heritage. It brings thousands of visitors into the city every year which has a positive impact on the city’s economy. We know SnookHerd will be a popular member of The Herd and we’re proud to be behind it.”
The elephant was welcomed in to the city on the opening day of the World Snooker Championships. Each of the top 16 World Championship snooker players signed SnookHerd on their way in to The Crucible.
