CITY CARE

Practical support that keeps the city centre clean, safe and confident

City Care is Sheffield BID’s day‑to‑day investment in the trading environment, giving levy payers direct access to people, services and partnerships that help resolve issues, improve conditions and support staff and customers.

All City Care services are additional to local authority provision.

One point of contact for day‑to‑day issues

Levy payers have access to a dedicated BID Operations Manager, providing a single point of contact for issues affecting businesses and staff, including:

  • Environmental problems and street conditions
  • Anti‑social behaviour
  • Retail and business crime
  • Issues requiring coordination with partners

Support includes advice, escalation and coordination with partners where required.

Enhanced city centre cleaning

Sheffield BID’s Clean Team operates seven days a week, delivering visible and responsive cleaning support for levy payers:

  • Early‑morning cleansing from 7.30am, including sharps, hazardous waste and detritus
  • Daytime response to emerging issues
  • Jet‑washing and specialist cleaning where required

Free graffiti removal

Levy payers can access free graffiti removal, helping protect building appearance and confidence in the city centre.

  • Same‑day removal or covering of offensive graffiti where possible
  • Appropriate techniques used, depending on surface
  • Incidents logged and shared with South Yorkshire Police
  • Advice on prevention and access to subsidised anti‑graffiti coatings, shutter artwork and street art

BID Buddies – visible support and business concierge

BID Buddies provide a highly visible on‑street presence, supporting businesses and visitors

They can also be booked by levy payers for:

  • Meet‑and‑greet and concierge support for visiting clients or senior teams
  • A “walking bus” service between city centre locations
  • Event, launch and peak‑period support

Safer streets and wellbeing

City Care includes initiatives that improve reassurance, preparedness and confidence:

  • Discretionary rough sleeper patrols delivered by South Yorkshire Police, supported by follow‑on cleansing
  • Safety and resilience training, including personal safety, conflict management, violence in the workplace and counter‑terror preparedness
  • Delivery of Best Bar None and support for Purple Flag, maintaining high standards in the night‑time economy

Accessibility, resilience and pride in place

Sheffield BID also delivers:

  • Mobile Sheffield, providing visitors with access to mobility equipment (wheelchairs and pavement scooters) from the Visitor Information Hub
  • A city centre network of defibrillators and emergency bleed cabinets, with free outdoor installation and street signage for member‑owned defibrillators
  • 'Binfluencers' and city centre activation days, offering businesses a practical way to get involved in improving presentation and pride in place
  • Respect Our City - a shared commitment bringing together City Care activity under a focus on pride, responsibility and positive behaviour. We welcome businesses that would like support to deliver small actions or initiatives within their own organisation, from staff engagement to participating in BID activity

Why City Care matters

City Care strengthens the day‑to‑day conditions in which the city centre operates. By investing collectively in additional support, levy payers help strengthen cleanliness, safety and confidence across the city centre.
