Overview of course
We know that businesses always try to ‘win’ at personal safety in the early rounds, where risk awareness and procedures can be employed to keep staff safe and away from danger.
Increasingly though, frontline staff find themselves having to deal with anti-social behaviour in the workplace, often involving vulnerable people with chaotic lifestyles and unpredictable behaviour.
This course will enable your employees to assess scenarios for conflict potential and act appropriately to manage it in a professional manner before it escalates, and before they are at any further risk or harm.

What are the learning outcomes?
- Recognise and control the impact of fight, flight and freeze.
- Recognise and respond to signs of increasing tensions in others.
- Stay calm, control behaviour and communicate effectively in conflict situations.
- Dynamically assess the risk of harm.
- Formulate and implement responses to reduce the risk of harm.
- Consider the implications of use of force legislation in conflict situations.
- Respond to and deal with a spontaneous physical intervention.
Meet the trainer
The training is delivered by Nev Hamilton, a former police chief and specialist trained commander in firearms, critical incident management and planning. Following his retirement from South Yorkshire Police, Nev subsequently spent 10 years as the Security Operations Manager at the University of Sheffield before becoming a self-employed training consultant. His qualifications include:
- BTEC Trainer in Conflict Management.
- NFPS (National Federation for Personal Safety) approved Conflict Management and Personal Safety Awareness Trainer.
- NFPS Level 3 award in Understanding Reasonable Force.
