City Centre events: key dates for 2023

A selection of events that will attract visitors to the city centre along with some of the key dates you will want to have in your diary for 2023.

March 2023

1st-31st: Festival of the Outdoors 🌳

A month-long celebration of events and festivities celebrating the very best of 'The Outdoor City'. Full Festival listings on the Welcome to Sheffield website.

3rd-4th: Indie Beer Feast 🍻

Sheffield’s craft beer festival returns to the Trafalgar Warehouse, Trafalgar Street, for a two-day celebration! Further information on the Indie Beer Feast website and socials.  

3rd-5th: Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) 🎞️

Featuring 'more than 100 of the best new adventure, travel and extreme sports films from around the world' over three days of screenings at the Showroom Cinema. Details on the ShAFF website.  

6th-12th: Sheffield Beer Week 🍻     

Back for another week-long festival 'celebrating the region’s brewing landscape.' This city-wide event includes a number of city centre venues including: BrewDog Sheffield, The Crow Inn, The Forum Kitchen + Bar, Hop Hideout, The Rutland Arms, Sheffield Tap and Trafalgar Warehouse. 11th: Craft & Flea 🧡

The ever-popular Craft + Flea returns to Sheffield Cathedral, a makers market that brings together 'talented, independent makers, designers, producers and collectors, each handpicked for their quality, on-trend products.' Further event and ticket details on the eventbrite website.

11th-29th: Sheffield Varsity 2023: Made of Steel πŸ…

Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield go head-to-head across 19 days of competition culminating with Korfball, Water Polo and Swimming at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Full fixture list on the official Sheffield Varsity website.  

16th-19th: Citi Para Swimming World Series inc. British Para-Swimming Meet 2023 🏊

Sheffield hosts the third in a series of eight worldwide events in 2023 at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. For tickets visit the British Swimming website

17th-19th: Classical Weekend 🎢

This year's Tenth Anniversary Classical Weekend is 'jam-packed with fabulous musicians, both from Sheffield and further afield, and a wonderfully varied selection of programmes.' City centre host venues include: The Leadmill, Orchard Square, Sheffield City Hall and the Winter Garden. Full event listings on the Classical Sheffield website.  

19th: Pollen 🌼

Making a welcome return to Castlegate in 2023, Pollen brings together 'products and activity celebrating all things plants, flowers and the outdoors in the UK’s greenest city.' Visit the Pollen website for details.

26th: Sheffield Half Marathon 🎽

Thousands of runners will once again take part, raising money for many great causes. With the race start and finish line on Arundel Gate, another huge crowd is expected to turn up to cheer on this year's participants. Race organiser's have also produced a handy guide with everything you need to know for the big day...whether you're a runner, a supporter or a city centre visitor.  



April 2023

4th-9th: British Swimming Championships 🏊

The 'flagship domestic swimming event' will once again be hosted at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Six days of competition playing a key role in the selection process for July's World Aquatics Championships in Japan.

8th: Quayside Market 🍲

The Quayside Market returns to Victoria Quays for another day of music, street food and market stalls. 

12th April - 26th May: Festival of Debate 🎀

The UK's 'largest annual politics festival'. This year's festival will take place across six weeks and a wide variety of venues. For latest festival news visit the Festival of Debate website.

15th April - 1st May: World Snooker Championships πŸ†

The World's top players return to Sheffield's Crucible Theatre for the 47th consecutive year. Visit the Crucible Snooker website for the tournament schedule.

16th: Pollen 🌼

Following their welcome return to Castlegate in March 2023, Pollen is back for another inner city celebration of 'all things plants, flowers and the outdoors in the UK’s greenest city'. Visit the Pollen website for details.

27th April - 1st May: Sheffield International Market  πŸ˜‹ 

A five day international market located in and around the Peace Gardens.  

  • 10:00 - 18:00 on Thursday 27th, Friday 28th and Saturday 29th April

May 2023

1st-26th May: Festival of Debate 🎀

The UK's 'largest annual politics festival' continues through May.

1st: World Snooker Championships Final 2023 πŸ†

The World Snooker Champion 2023 will be crowned after 17 days of tense competition. 

1st May: Sheffield International Market  πŸ˜‹

Fifth and final day of the international market located in and around the Peace Gardens.

6th: Coronation of King Charles III πŸ‘‘

King Charles III's coronation takes place on Saturday 6th May at Westminster Abbey in London. Events and celebrations are being held across the country to mark this historic occasion. In Sheffield, β€˜The Lord Mayor’s Coronation Party’ will take place in the Peace Gardens on Saturday 6th May, with The King’s Concert taking place on Sunday 7th May. Visitors will be able to watch the events unfold on a big screen in the Peace Gardens.

12th - 20th: Sheffield Chamber Music Festival 2022 🎢

Sheffield Chamber Music Festival returns with a series of live performances to thrill and enchant audiences. Full programme details on the Music in the Round website

26th - 29th: Sheffield Food Festival πŸ˜‹

For the last 10 years, Sheffield Food Festival has drawn thousands of visitors to the city to celebrate food and drink from across the region and beyond. Taking over the Peace Gardens during the end of May Bank Holiday weekend, from 26th to 29th May, the aim is to once again provide one of the city's largest free to attend events for all members of the family.
