New conflict management and personal safety training

To support our BID levy payers, Sheffield BID is hosting free training around conflict management and personal safety for frontline staff. This is a short pilot training programme which will be extended if the demand is there.

Managing conflict and personal safety

We know that businesses always try to ‘win’ at personal safety in the early rounds, where risk awareness and procedures can be employed to keep staff safe and away from danger. Increasingly though, frontline staff find themselves having to deal with anti-social behaviour in the workplace, often involving vulnerable people with chaotic lifestyles and unpredictable behaviour.

This course will enable your employees to assess scenarios for conflict potential and act appropriately to manage it in a professional manner before it escalates, and before they are at any further risk or harm.

Dates and locations

  • Wednesday, 12 June - The Mercure Hotel, Norfolk Street
  • Tuesday, 18 June - Cubo Works, 38 Carver Street
  • Thursday, 27 June - Showroom Cinema, Paternoster Row

Duration of courses

Each course is a full day with an hour’s break for lunch. Courses start at 9.30am and finish by 4.30pm

Who should attend?

Training is relevant to frontline staff in a customer facing environment.

What are the learning outcomes?

  • Recognise and control the impact of fight, flight and freeze.
  • Recognise and respond to signs of increasing tensions in others.
  • Stay calm, control behaviour and communicate effectively in conflict situations.
  • Dynamically assess the risk of harm.

No. of delegates per course

Up to 16 people per course. For businesses wanting to send several employees together, we may need to cap this to a maximum of three delegates per course initially, subject to take-up. We will put on more dates if the demand is there.

Meet the trainer

The training is delivered by Nev Hamilton, a former police chief and specialist trained commander in firearms, critical incident management and planning. Following his retirement from South Yorkshire Police, Nev subsequently spent 10 years as the Security Operations Manager at the University of Sheffield before becoming a self-employed training consultant.
