New course dates for 2026

Why is Sheffield BID offering this training?

As part of our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming city centre, Sheffield BID is working with Counter Terrorism Policing to provide practical training for businesses. A new schedule of dates is now available for 2026. These sessions help staff understand potential risks, build confidence, and learn how to respond effectively - ensuring everyone feels prepared without disrupting day-to-day operations. A well-prepared business community benefits everyone.


Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) & See, Check and Notify (SCaN) courses for 2026

ACT Awareness Training

Date: Tuesday 10 February 2026

Time: 9:30am – 11:30am

Duration: 1.5–2 hours

Venue: TBC 

About the training:

ACT Awareness is suitable for anyone in any job role—no prior knowledge required. Attending this training session first is a pre-requisite for additional courses on this schedule. 

Aims: 

  • Raise awareness of the threat from terrorism
  • Actions to protect yourself and your organisation during an attack

Format:

Modules include: 

  • The current threat
  • Identifying & reporting suspicious activity
  • Responding to suspicious items
  • Responding to firearms or weapons attacks

Interactive Q&A included. 


ACT Operational

Date: Wednesday 11 March 2026

Time: 9:30am – 1:30pm

Duration: 3–4 hours

Venue: TBC

Prior knowledge: ACT Awareness training required  

About the course:

An interactive workshop for Heads of Department and security staff, using real-life scenarios to test understanding and plans. 

  • Improve security culture
  • Understand your role in an incident
  • Increase confidence in response

SCaN for Communications Professionals

Dates: Wednesday 4 March or Tuesday 17 March 2026

Time: 9:30am – 1:30pm

Duration: Half day

Venue: TBC

Prior knowledge: ACT Awareness training required 

About the training:

Interactive workshop enabling communications professionals to deliver security-minded deterrence messaging at their site. 


SCaN for CCTV Operators

Date: Thursday 5 March 2026

Time: 9:30am – 1:00pm

Duration: 3 hours

Venue: TBC

Prior knowledge: ACT Awareness training required  

About the training:

Designed for CCTV operators to: 

  • Identify hostile reconnaissance and suspicious activity
  • Understand observational and judgmental errors
  • Work in partnership with the police

SCaN for Customer facing staff

Date: Thursday 19 March 2026

Duration: 3 hours

Time: 9:30am – 1:00pm

Prior knowledge: ACT Awareness training required  

Venue: TBC

About the training:

Interactive course for staff with face-to-face customer contact, covering: 

  • Spotting suspicious activity
  • The importance of vigilance
  • The power of hello
  • How to report concerns
